Retreat to Nature
The Hermitage welcomes you to come and enjoy some time away from it all. Nestled amongst the trees in a valley to the south of Croagh Patrick sitting on the Owenmore River, the property is on the Western Way providing a stop off for hikers between Leenaun and Westport. The accommodation provides a base for exploring Connemara, Kylemore Abbey, Westport and its beautiful surrounding beaches as well as many other hidden gems situated nearby. Adventurous ramblers wishing to climb Croagh Patrick will be delighted to know that the Hermitage provides a perfect base from which to achieve this goal. The wild and beautiful Carrownisky, a local surf spot with year-round surf lessons for beginners and pros alike, is a 25 minute drive away. There is an abundance of wildlife here in Derrymore ranging from foxes and otters to curlews and herons. The Owenmore River is also home to wild salmon and freshwater pearl mussels.
Originally built in the 1990’s by a nun, the property offers a complete digital detox as there is no phone signal and no WiFi except in emergencies.
Here at the Hermitage we grow our own veggies and have freshly laid eggs which we are more than happy to share with our guests, so feel free to ask for any eggs or seasonal veggies and we will be happy to help out.
The Hermitage comprises of two separate accommodations available for guests. Whether you are a family looking for a cosy retreat away from the stresses and strains of everyday life or hikers looking to rest up for the night we have accommodation to cater for all needs. Groups and leaders wishing to hold a retreat space are welcome to occupy both accommodation options.
